Vampire Bat

Bat

Chiroptophobia (from Greek cheir, "hand", and pteron, "wing") is the fear of bats. People fear bats because bats can attack them to get blood or give them rabies. Though in reality, there are only three species of blood-sucking bats, all in Latin America, and 0.5% of all vampire bats carry rabies.

This Phobia can occur even though a person has no known experience of seeing bats or just simply seeing a picture depicting bats. Many people with this fear usually want to avoid going caves, lakes, parks and sometimes even trees depending on the severity of the fear.

Due to the fact that this phobia is not usually life-altering, mainly because sufferers don't live near bat habitats, chiroptophobia can be left untreated.
