Dinosaur in Jurassic Park

Deinophobia (from the Greek word deinos, meaning "fearfully great or terrible", and phobos, "fear") (also known as ornithoscelidaphobia or paleontophobia) is the fear of dinosaurs. It is usually suffered by young children who believe that dinosaurs still exist after first learning about them.

Person who fear dinosaurs would typically feel very worried and spend majority of times hiding unless they have to go to the bathroom, and so, would not participate in normal daily routines. They would have to be either homeschooled, have someone tell them that dinosaurs are extinct or not be learned at all. Other symptoms experienced by deinophobes include numbness, fast heartbeat, rapid breathing, stomach flu, fearing death, and having terrible nightmares about dinosaurs eating or attacking them.(even herbivores and omnivores)

The first method in treating deinophobia is to present and give them toy dinosaurs or watch dinosaur cartoons (like Barney & Friends) and tell them that they're not scary as it seems. The phobia can also be treated by telling sufferers that dinosaurs were extinct millions of years ago, but this doesn't always work as some sufferers believe that the assistance may be lying unless they watch a video about it. If this treatment method doesn't work, sufferers should contact psychological and behavioral therapists.

In addition to young children, adolescents and even adults may also suffer deinophobia, many were triggered by watching Jurassic Park films or learning conspiracy theories that dinosaurs may still exist now (which only their bird descendants still exist).

Imma edit this real quick, as someone who had deinophobia/ornithoscelidaphobia/paleontophobia her whole life, I've never been able to lose that fear. I know dinosaurs are extint and neither believe they are still alive or will be (i think so, if we dont have the stupid idea of reviving them) and my trauma hasn't been provided by any movie or theory. I've watched barney, Jurassic world and even had small dinosaur toys, but when it comes to face an animatronic or statue (even the skeleton) it makes me run away, my heart beats so fast, i cry and get goosebumps. The idea of even hearing one is enough for me to panic.

When i tell my parents or friends they don't take me seriously, think i'm exagerating or that i am ridiculous, i just get comfort from a few friends when it comes to my phobia. I have been taken to therapy but personally i haven't been able to get over it, even when im 'bout to get in high school.

What is your expierence with your phobia?, im curious since i've never known anyone with it in my life and knowing theres others makes me feel better.

Not to be confused with Deinopokemonphobia.
