Erythrophobia in psychiatry refers to the phobia of blushing, the haunting fear of blushing in public.

Unlike emotional blushing, very common and linked to a surprise effect, the shame of feeling inferior and the fear of the look or the judgment of others causes this phobia. The tendency towards excessive blushing generally appears from childhood. Different factors can then cause it to develop into a phobia of blushing related to:

  • The family: parents themselves uncomfortable in society.
  • The environment: enduring mockery.
  • Fragile self-esteem: you generally get inferior from a limited vulnerability.
