Vehophobia (from Latin veho, "drive") is the fear of driving. People fear driving because of the risk of accidents that cause injuries or death. Another trigger are from other fears, like claustrophobia (fear of being in small spaces) and ochophobia (fear of vehicles). Sufferers would often be afraid of road authorities and driving around police cars, fire trucks or ambulances.
Vehophobia is most commonly treated using behavioral therapy, specifically systematic desenitisation. Others options include relaxation methods, exposure therapy, and virtual therapy. Additional driving training and practices aided by a certified teacher can further reduce driving anxiety.
