Gynephobia, gynophobia or gynaphobia (from Greek gunē, "woman"), also known as feminaphobia or feminophobia (from Latin femina, "woman", "female"), is the irrational fear of women. This phobia is usually suffered by men. Such individuals fear women or having sexual intercourse with them. They might have hatred or ill will towards their own sisters or mothers or, in general, all women around them. Some gynephobes tend to put off marriage on account of such a fear.

Causes[]

The common cause of Gynephobia is when as a child, living with strict mother, getting abused by a woman, or even hearing stories about witches (see wiccaphobia). Gynephobia can sometimes be caused by psychological disorders like schizophrenia or bipolar depression. Sufferers would necessarily stay away from women, especially when men view women as emotional or physical threat. When a gynophobe confronts a woman or even imagine one, they tend to feel panic or anxiety attacks with symptoms like shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, sweating, dry mouth, and inability to form words and sentences.

Treatment[]

Several treatment options for gynephobia include cognitive-behavior therapy, talk therapy, psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, exposure therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and counseling.
