- Hamsterphobia is the fear of hamsters. Can also be called Cricetophobia after Cricetinae, the hamster subfamily and phobos, Greek for fear. This phobia can occur when a patient is bitten by a pet hamster or had a traumatic experience involving hamsters. It can be treated by exposure therapy by showing the patient a hamster on the computer and then have an encounter with a real hamster.
