Hoplophobia (from Greek hoplo, meaning "weapon") is the fear of weapons, specifically firearm. Hoplophobia is a common phobia as weapons are deadly. Common triggers of hoplophobia are hearing about gun-related deaths on the news and seeing shootings in the movies. Other triggers of this phobia are losing loved ones to gun act as well as being shot and survived. People suffering this phobia would not have guns in the house where sufferer lives. Sufferers and their families would not put on movies featuring shootings.

Symptoms of hoplophobia include extreme sweating, concern of dying, breathlessness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, coronary heart palpitations, inability to speak or assume clearly, faintness, discomfort, rapid pulse, nausea, and sleeplessness. Presence of working firearms may cause panic attack.

This phobia is commonly treated using medications.
