← Back to: List of phobias
Obesophobia (from Greek obeso, "fat") or pocrescophobia is the fear of becoming fat. The phobia is usually triggered when learning that being fat can have negative effects on their health. Sufferers would limit eat foods, while more severe sufferers would not eat food unless if there is an emergency. As a result, obesophobia is linked with cibophobia (fear of food). It is important for these people to treat the phobia using medications and therapy; the most helpful method is support groups.
