Officinaphobia is the fear of shopping. It is a branch of agoraphobia. The word comes from the Latin officina meaning shop, and Greek phobos meaning fear.

People may sense that shopping can be an unpleasant experience, like buying things that turn out to be dissatisfying, waiting in line for too long, finding an item person wants is out of stock, and even getting into fights. Officinaphobes may only fear going to the store, or they may fear online shopping too.

If the person needs something, he/she would assist others to buy things for them, which doesn't result in bad feelings. As a result, this fear doesn't have much impact on their life.
