Orophobia (from ancient Greek oros, "mountain"), also known as akraphobia (from ancient Greek ákron, "peak, summit, edge") and bounophobia (from modern Greek bouno, "mountain"), is the fear of mountains. The fear is triggered due to negative experiences with mountains, like falling down while climbing the mountain, getting altitude sickness, and even learning that deaths occur while trekking up the mountain. Another reason for this fear is that mountains may hide a volcano that may blow at anytime. Sufferers who live near the mountain ranges would want to move away from them as even just seeing them is unpleasant to some.
