Phasmaphobia, by definition, is the fear of ghosts. However, phasmaphobia can also provoke an individual to feel afraid of a wide range of supernatural, nonexistent beings. It is a serious, ongoing phobia that can trigger anxiety, panic attacks, and sheer terror. Many people have the ill-conceived notion that phasmaphobia is only present in children and is outgrown. However, this is not accurate. Unfortunately, countless adults and adolescents experience phasmaphobia.
Some symptoms include:
-Rapid/increased heartbeat
-Feelings of dread and/or terror
-Depression
-Inability to rest
-Dizziness and fainting
Phasmaphobia is often associated with thanatophoba and Necrophobia.
