Pugophobia (from Greek pugḗ, "buttock") is the fear of buttocks.

Pugophobia

The fear of buttocks

Causes[]

Pugophobia is commonly suffered by young children and is often triggered by painful experiences when excreting huge feces through it, something getting stuck inside, or when sitting on the butt. Sufferers may not sit down and is one cause of cathisophobia (fear of sitting).

It is usually caused by traumatic experiences involving the buttocks, such as pain, injury, or embarrassment. People with pugophobia may avoid sitting down, looking at buttocks, or having any contact with them. Pugophobia is a type of body phobia, which is an irrational fear of a specific part of the body.

Treatment[]

Pugophobia can be treated with various forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, or counseling. These therapies aim to help the person understand and overcome their fear by changing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to buttocks. Medication may also be prescribed to reduce anxiety or panic symptoms.

Pugophobia should not be confused with Pogonophobia, which is the fear of beards.
