Triakontenneaphobia (from Greek triakonta, "thirty", and ennea, "nine") is the fear of number 39. It isn't so surprising that there is phobia for the number as 39 is a multiple by 13, the most fearful number. Triakontenneaphobia is mainly suffered by Afghans as the number represents the curse, shame, and prostitution. Some say that this superstition originated when the number translates into morda-gow, which literally means "dead cow". People being the 39th on the list are believe to result in a curse or shame to them, like Mullah Tarakhil, listed 39th on the ballot, got into a traffic accident, causing his guard to gun down two civilians, said to have been in reaction to people taunting the candidate over his number. Afghans age 39 may believe to cause curse on one's life for a year, including stronger possibility of death. As a result, Afghan sufferers would instead assign to the age of "one less than 40" or "one year to 40" to reduce the vulnerability of curse slightly and to improve the survivability.
